Restored in 2013 with a grant from the Santa Clara County Historic Society, the beautiful open architecture of the Belvedere makes it a fine resting spot after returning from a hike on the many trails at Montalvo. “Belvedere” translates from Italian into "beautiful view" and glimpses into Silicon Valley are still to be had from its benches, despite the trees that have grown up around it in the 100+ years since its original building.

Immediately surrounding the Belvedere are newer plantings of drought and deer tolerant trees, shrubs, and flowers. Among other less common species, a young Catalina Ironwood tree, Lyonothamnus floribundus ssp. aspleniifolius, was planted near the new stairway leading up to the Belvedere.

The funds and labor for the Belvedere garden were provided by the wonderfully active and generous Montalvo Service Group.
