Monica Lundy is an Italian American visual artist who lives and works between California and Italy. Lundy’s work draws on site-relevant archival research, unearthing stories from the past, on which her work is based. With an emphasis on site-specific installation painting, Lundy’s work utilizes non-traditional media, such as liquid porcelain, clay and burned paper. Lundy holds an MFA from Mills College (2010) and an BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1996). She has been the recipient of an Irvine Fellowship, San Francisco Arts Commission Grant and the Jay DeFeo Award and has been an artist in residence at the American Academy in Rome, Montalvo Arts Center’s Lucas Artist Program and Stoney Road Press. Notable exhibitions include: Nancy Toomey Fine Art in San Francisco; Turner Carroll Gallery in Santa Fe; Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles; Montalvo Arts Center; San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery; De Saisset Museum; The Battery; San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art; Berkeley Arts Center; Alcatraz; San Francisco Maritime Museum and Museo Laboratorio della Mente (Rome). Her work has been featured in ARTnews, KQED/PBS, The Huffington Post and Visual Art Source among other publications.
