Julia Goodman received her BA in International Relations and Peace & Justice Studies at Tufts University in 2001. While taking art classes at Santa Monica College, Goodman began making paper in her backyard in 2003 and completed her Master's in Fine Arts at the California College of the Arts in May 2009.

Goodman has exhibited over the past decade across the United States, including shows at the DePaul University Art Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, Intersection for the Arts, Rena Bransten Gallery, The David Brower Center, Columbia College Chicago and Machine Project. Her work has appeared in Open Space (SFMOMA Blog), the San Francisco Chronicle, ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, In The Make and most recently on the cover of Poetry Magazine. Recent residencies include the JB Blunk Residency, The Lost Coast Culture and Recology SF. She is the recipient of a 2015 Full Time Faculty Grant through Columbia College Chicago to support the research and production of new work.

Goodman is based out the Bay Area, but recently completed a year in Chicago where as a Visiting Lecturer in the Interdisciplinary MFA Program in Book and Paper at Columbia College Chicago.
