Nellie McKay:

Talented musician, actress

Nellie McKay

The multi-talented Nellie McKay will perform in the intimate Carriage House Theatre at Montalvo on Sunday, October 21, at 7:30pm. Her performances have been called "gifted, charming, and funny," by the Washington Post, but she's more than just a brilliant young singer-songwriter: she is also an actress, with a new film currently making the rounds at festivals across the country.

Downtown Express, an independent film directed by David Grubin, stars McKay and violinist/Grammy nominee Philippe Quint in an exploration of the immigrant experience through music. The film "radiates with love" (The New York Times) and "the music is sublime" (New York Magazine). Keep an eye out for this unique movie in your local film festival for a chance to see Nellie Mckay on the big screen!

Meanwhile, pick up your tickets today for McKay's performance at Montalvo! Tickets start at just $25 ($22 for Members) and are available online or by calling the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

ZERO1 Biennial
begins this weekend
Seeking Silicon Valley
This weekend, celebrate the intersection of art and technology in the Bay Area with the opening of the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial: Seeking Silicon Valley. This Friday and Saturday, September 14-15, from 6pm-midnight, the (e)MERGE Street Festival will feature outdoor projects by over 100 emerging artists in the SoFa district of downtown San Jose.
The ZERO1 Biennial continues through December 8, showcasing work at venues throughout the Bay Area by local, national, and international artists with the goal of transforming Silicon Valley into an epicenter of innovative art and public experience. Montalvo is again partnering with Zero1 to host two Biennial events and house several of the participating artists in our Lucas Artists Residency Program.
Film Trilogy
Spin 100 (2011), from The Film Trilogy by Daniel Canogar
The Film Trilogy, a multimedia exhibition by ZERO1 artist Daniel Canogar, is currently on view in the Project Space Gallery. This collection of three works explores the relationship between the films and videos we see and the medium through which they are projected and viewed. The Metro included The Film Trilogy as a "Reason to Zero In on ZERO1." The exhibition is on view through October 14, with a special closing reception and artist's talk in the Phelan Library on Friday, October 12, at 6:30pm.

Also join us on Thursday, November 8, at 7pm, as artist Nina Waisman presents As We Move, So You Think, an evening of performance and interactive sound works in the historic Villa followed by a Q&A with Waisman and her collaborators. This performance is part of ZERO1's 9 Evenings program series.

Throughout the Biennial, Art Ambassadors will be traveling to events and galleries, blogging and tweeting along the way. Check out their schedules, follow their posts online, and meet them in person to chat about your ZERO1 experience. If you visit Montalvo, let them (and us) know your thoughts!
