Arts In Your Classroom 2017

Join us on Saturday, March 4, from 9am-4pm for our 15th annual Arts In Your Classroom conference. Designed for educators, artists, administrators, and anyone interested in the creative process, this event will include hands-on workshops, inspirational presentations, and opportunities to network with colleagues in your field.

This year’s theme is Arts as Activism: Deconstructing Education to Build a Better Future
After a keynote address relating to the topic, each attendee will have the opportunity to choose a morning group workshop session and an afternoon session. The day concludes with a networking reception that includes wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Workshops for this year's conference include: I Wish My Teacher Taught This Way with painter Kimberley D’Adamo Green; Adapting History with musician Dahlak Brathwaite; Art Is Power with educator Patrice Milillo; Meaningful Movement with dancer Laurel Shastri; and Activism Through Poster Making with teaching artist Michele Guieu. Visit our website for expanded descriptions of each activity.

Registration is $25 and teachers can combine this conference with one of our Professional Development Classes to receive continued education credits (for more information on this process, email learn@montalvoarts.org).

This event fills up each year, so early registration is encouraged! To sign up, click below or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

Upcoming Concerts Celebrate Songwriters
Jimmy Webb & Michael Griffiths

We've got two concerts coming to our indoor Carriage House Theatre that feature the work of legendary songwriters. Click on the buttons to get your tickets to these great shows, or call our Box Office at 408-961-5858, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.

First, don't miss your chance to see singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb, creator of hits like "MacArthur Park," "Up, Up and Away," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and “Galveston,” on Saturday, February 4, at 8pm!

The youngest man ever inducted into the National Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, Webb may be best known for the classics he penned for artists such as Glen Campbell, Richard Harris, The Fifth Dimension, and others -- but he is also an electrifying singer in his own right. It's a concert you won't want to miss!

The following week (Saturday, February 11, at 8pm), experience Michael Griffiths as Cole: An Evening with Cole Porter -- a celebration of the life and work of the legendary performer.

A cabaret sensation in his native Australia, Griffiths, who has been called "totally convincing as Cole Porter" by Adelaide Nowhas wowed critics and delighted audiences with this fun and compelling performance/tribute. It's a must-see for any Porter fan.

Lots to Learn About Leaves
in Contemporary Floral Design Class
Contemporary Floral Design: Leaf Manipulation

Take your floral arrangements to the next level with our upcoming Contemporary Floral Design class: Leaf Manipulation on Sunday, February 12, from 10:30am-12:30pm.

This series of classes uses the principles of ikebana to refine and extend traditional European floral traditions. Taught by instructors Mickie Anderson and Diane Graham, each of these classes guide students of all skill levels through design techniques, approaching the art form much like a painter does a painting: creating highlights, depth, and adding visual interest by varying sizes, shapes, and colors.

In this class, participants will focus on leaf manipulation: how to fold, twirl, twist, and bend them to create beauty and volume. Basic design principles are also covered for those who have never taken a floral class before.

Your $75 enrollment fee includes all flowers, a vase, and structural materials needed. Participants are asked to bring clippers, an apron, a towel, something to take notes on, and a stapler.

Our last Floral Design class sold out, so register while you can! Click the button below or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm. We hope to see you!
