Winter Camps will put

smiles on your kids' faces

This winter, keep your child active during ski break (February 18-22) with one or both of our fantastic Winter Camps

Spy Camp (9am-12pm for ages 10-13; 1-4pm for ages 6-9) is an exciting way for students to explore Montalvo's grounds as they work together to solve puzzles, create their own secret "languages," and master the finer points of espionage. It's one of our most popular camps!

In Circus Arts Camp (9am-12pm for ages 6-9; 1-4pm for ages 10-13), students will learn all sorts of circus skills, from clowning to juggling to tumbling. Taught by professional circus performers, this class is a great chance for your child to indulge in plenty of wild shenanigans!

Register for Winter Camps online via our Ultracamp page. And don't forget to check back in February, when our Summer Camp schedule will be made available! We are excited to be offering a wide variety of new and unique arts camps in 2013.

Warm up your December nights with extraordinary jazz piano performances

Alfredo Rodriguez
Alfredo Rodriguez

Our excellent Piano Masters Series continues in December with concerts by two celebrated Jazz performers in the intimate Carriage House Theatre.

Join us on Sunday, December 2, at 7:30pm, for Alfredo Rodriguez. Discovered at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006 by Quincy Jones, the Cuban-born Rodriguez is a young pianist of astonishing virtuosity and imagination. The Los Angeles Times has called his music "elegant and explosive," and his performance here two years ago brought the audience to its feet!

On Sunday, December 16, at 7:30pm, don't miss the Grammy-nominated Fred Hersch in a solo performance. Described by Vanity Fair as "the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade," Hersch's career of more than 20 years includes a Guggenheim Fellowship, more than 70 original jazz compositions, and numerous other accolades. It's a performance not to be missed!

Tickets still remain for both of these concerts. Purchase online now or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

In and Out of Place:

free exhibition and workshop

by Bia Gayotto

Don't miss the wonderful exhibition currently on view in the Project Space Gallery, In and Out of Place, featuring works by artists Ruth Boerefijn and Bia Gayotto

The installations in this exhibition explore the relationships between people, places, and stories, creating a multilayered portrait of Silicon Valley. Boerefijn's Communicated Experience uses a variety of materials to document personal lives of three pioneering San Jose women. Gayotto's video work Somewhere in Between: Silicon Valley focuses on bicultural people living in Santa Clara County.

On Saturday, December 8, from 1-3pm, join us in the gallery for a special FREE workshop that will give new insights on telling stories like those seen in the exhibition. Jane Goldbach, Montalvo historian and former board president, and community historian Margo McBane will teach visitors how to collect meaningful oral histories. Bring walking shoes, as a stroll around the grounds is involved!

RSVP to the workshop by emailing Lauren Baines at lbaines@montalvoarts.org. In and Out of Place will be on view through January 13; gallery hours are Thurs-Sun, 11am-3pm.
