The season of Jeff Daniels?

Added THU, SEP 24TH 2015

'Tis the Season...
of Jeff Daniels?!

Season of Jeff Daniels

Do you feel like you've been seeing a lot of actor Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, Pleasantville, Dumb and Dumber) lately? You probably have! The reason, of course, is that it's the (unofficial) Season of Jeff Daniels here in Silicon Valley.

What does that mean? Well, Daniels plays scowling corporate exec John Sculley in the new movie Steve Jobs, a biopic of the Apple co-founder who got his start right here in the Bay Area. That film opens in late October; meanwhile, Daniels is also co-starring in The Martian (which opens in two weeks) as a NASA administrator tasked with tough decisions about how to handle a marooned astronaut.

Here at Montalvo, we'll be hosting a conversation with Andy Weir, author of The Martian (the best-selling novel upon which the film is based) on Sunday, November 1, at 4pm in our Carriage House Theatre. Tickets are moving quickly, so get yours today!

Just a few days later, on Thursday, November 5, at 7:30pm, we continue our Jeff Daniels celebrations as we kick off our Carriage House Theatre concert season with... Jeff Daniels!

That's right, in addition to being an award-winning actor, Daniels is a revelation as a singer-songwriter with a rousing blues- and folk-infused sound. He'll be performing along with the Ben Daniels Band, fronted by Jeff's son.

This show will sell out, so click below now to purchase tickets (or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday).

Pop-Up Plein Air

Come make art with us this Sunday, September 27, from 11am-4pm as we host Pop-Up Plein Air: Art Escapists.

Guests of any experience level are welcome to join us in making art en plein air through painting, musical composition, performance, or whatever inspires you.

Gardener Ann Northrup and Fieldworks Collaborative (Trena Noval & Ann Wettrich) will also lead a tour of the gardens and hiking trails to help with your inspiration, and you'll have a chance to engage with Fieldworks' Curiosity Fieldstation.

Beer, wine, and food will be available for purchase; be sure to bring any art materials you'd like to use.

You can start the day off from 11:30am-1:30pm with Plein Air Primer, a workshop with paint time led by an experienced art instructor. The $45 registration fee includes all necessary art materials, which you can then use to participate in the Pop-Up event for the rest of the afternoon. It also includes a free drink!

Hand Built Ceramics
classes at Creekside

Hand Built Ceramics

Explore working with clay in our new Creekside Studio space with a weekly class taking place through November: Hand Built Ceramics.

Participants will learn how to create both simple and complex ceramic forms, moving from flat to three-dimensional works. Various building, glazing, and surface design techniques will be demonstrated, and you'll come home each week with new pieces of your own creation!

A small group size will ensure individual guidance for each student. If you've taken our ceramics courses before, you'll have a chance to perfect your technique and be introduced to more advanced concepts.

Classes meet the first four Mondays of the month (November 2, 9, 16, and 23) from 6-8pm. No previous experience is required.

Registration is $180 (includes all sessions and materials); to sign up, click below or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
