Rescue at Los Banos

Join us on Wednesday, April 29, from 7-9pm as our Montalvo Writers Series continues with author Bruce Henderson in conversation with Katherine Maxfield about Henderson's new book Rescue at Los Baños.

As the Pacific War was drawing to a close in 1945, the Japanese tightened their grip on their POWs. Prisoners at the Los Baños prison camp in the Philippines received ruthless treatment. 

Fearing the worst, General Douglas MacArthur authorized the 11th Airborne Division to embark on a dangerous rescue mission deep inside enemy-held territory—and a heart-pounding race against the clock began.

Weaving together insights from personal interviews, diaries, memoirs, and archival research, Rescue at Los Baños tells the gripping story of a group of POWs who overcame hardship with courage and resilience, and the young American and Filipino fighting men who risked their lives to save them.

Enjoy a glass of wine or beer and some hors d'oeuvres as Henderson and Maxfield discuss the book, Henderson's research and storytelling process, and his own experience onboard naval ships during the Vietnam war.

Food & Wine Classic
Silicon Valley's premier
culinary event is June 7

Food & Wine 2015

You're invited to Montalvo's highly-anticipated annual Food & Wine Classic on Sunday, June 7—now in its twelfth year! In the stunning setting of our historic Villa and picturesque grounds, sample gourmet fare from some of the most celebrated restaurants in the Bay Area and enjoy tastings from many of the region's finest wineries.

The VIP Reception from 4:30-5:30pm in the Italianate Garden will feature the award-winning cuisine of Zagat's 2014 #1-rated San Francisco restaurant, Kokkari Estiatorio, plus champagne courtesy of Artisan Wine Depot and tastings of private cellar vintages guided by Jeffrey Perisho, Wine Director at the Plumed Horse.

From 5:30-8:30pm in the Villa, experience the flavorful creations of more than 20 chefs and more than 20 wineries at the Classic Event. Guests will also have a chance to bid on limited edition wines and special dining and travel packages, and even win a pair of white gold "Victoria" diamond earrings courtesy of KTD Fine Jewelers.

Tickets are $225 for the Classic Event only or $350 for the VIP Package (Classic plus the VIP reception). Proceeds from the evening go to benefit Montalvo: it's our biggest (and most delicious) fundraiser of the year, so we hope to see you there!
