Dance Classes Will Get You Moving
Dance Classes at Montalvo!

Join us this spring for a new series of dance classes in our beautiful historic Villa! Perfect for anyone at any skill level, you're encouraged to sign up as an individual, a couple, or a group. Wine and light refreshments are included as part of the experience.

Learn Israeli Folk Dance on Wednesday, February 7 from 6-8pm with Ann Malmuth-Onn, who directs the Dance Program at West Valley College. Selected themes will unfold from modern and religious repertoire, such as "Song of Songs" and "Ruth."

On Wednesday, March 7 from 6-8pm, instructor Shereen Manalani will guide you on an exploration of Afro-Caribbean Dance styles that have evolved from the merging of African and South American cultures across the Caribbean. Folklore from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as live drumming, will inspire you to move your feet!

In Hawaiian Dance and Art on Wednesday, April 4 from 6-8pm, you'll learn to dance a hula, as well as the history and meaning behind it from kumu hula (or master hula instructor) Kau'i Isa-Kahaku! Hula is an integral part of the Hawaiian identity, used to pass down knowledge from one generation to the next. A fun Hawaiian art activity will also be included in the workshop.

Hear The Music of Montalvo with David Benoit
David Benoit

Looking for a one-of-a-kind musical experience that you and your loved one will cherish for a lifetime? Consider showing love for both your partner and Montalvo by joining us for a special fundraising event in our historic Villa with Grammy-nominated pianist David Benoit on Friday, February 9, from 6-8:30pm.

Benoit is a former Lucas Artists Fellow, who has spent time in residence at Montalvo composing work. He has collected these pieces into his latest album The Music of Montalvo -- and this is your chance to be there to celebrate its official Bay Area release!

The evening will begin with a lavish pre-concert reception exclusively catered by Le Papillon and served on the second floor of the Villa, an area many never see. Guests will sip wine and savor hors d'oeuvres in the cozy Loggia that overlooks the Oval Garden and Spanish Courtyard. You’ll be able to step out onto the balcony overlooking the Great Lawn and view the famous stained glass window at the top of the grand staircase. Benoit will then work his incomparable piano magic in the Main Hall and join us for a sumptuous dessert buffet, cordials, and coffee afterward. Plus, guests will go home with an autographed copy of The Music at Montalvo at the end of the evening.

Reservations at this exclusive, intimate event are $500 per person--and make a fabulous Valentine's gift! Contact our Membership & Donor Concierge Chris Wilcox at cwilcox@montalvoarts.org or 408-961-5849 to take your seat at the table.

Installations for Healing: A Call for Proposals
Call for Proposals

Our Sally and Don Lucas Artists Program (LAP), in partnership with SV Creates, is requesting proposals for a new project-based Artist-in-Residency program at Santa Clara's Valley Medical Centers (VMC) Women & Children's Hospital Wing. The newly renovated facility, which is dedicated to pediatric, newborn, and women's health, is seeking a resident artist to develop a forward-thinking, innovative project that takes inspiration from the patients, staff, and visitors. Upon completion, the final work will be created and placed on view in the hospital, allowing for continued public access.

The proposal should imagine methods of giving voice
to the many human journeys that the Center supports. These could include: the journey of an expectant mother; the late nights spent by family members of a newborn in intensive care; seeing the world through a toddler’s eyes; expressing the emotional states of a breast cancer patient. The work is expected to be installed in the fall of 2018 and remain situated within the hospital allowing for continued public access beyond the residency.

For more information about submitting a proposal, click the button below to read the full press release on our blog.
