5 Hour Sculpture: A Pop-Up Arts Festival

GET READY: You're invited to engage with 35 international artists on Friday, July 22, from 5-10pm, as they push the limits of visual art at our spectacular annual Rock the Garden event, 5 Hour Sculpture: A Pop-Up Arts Festival.

You'll see large-scale participatory installations where visitors help create the artwork; fascinating performances "popping up" all over our historic property; and spectacular intrusions that push the limits of contemporary sculpture. There will also be dancing, live music, gourmet food trucks, and more!

Highlights of the evening will include: a field of poppy pinwheels; a 30-foot pop-up sculpture built and raised by festival-goers; tall tales around a virtual campfire; a dance enactment of the Fibonacci sequence; a large-scale labyrinth; a performance work exploring politics, place, identity, and African American myths; sound installations and artmaking events; a barn-raising-like activity; an animal-led political parade; a participatory rock sculpture based on the French lawn game of pétanque; and a ceremonial act of imagination envisioning a communion between humankind and nature.

The festival is free to attend, with free parking and shuttle service from West Valley College. Very limited on-site parking is $10 for the evening, but if you arrive after 6pm, we recommend just using the shuttle service. For directions to West Valley, click here.

Don't miss this astonishing and memorable evening, and don't let your friends miss it either! Join the event on Facebook here, then click on the "invite" button to add everyone you know who enjoys fun. You can also RSVP by clicking the button below.

Rick Springfield

Ride the ‘80s wave on Tuesday, July 12, at 7pm, with Grammy-winning pop rocker Rick Springfield, best known for his No. 1 single “Jessie’s Girl” and other Top 10 hits like “Affair of the Heart” and “Don’t Talk to Strangers.”

Springfield is joined by The Romantics, the British-Invasion inspired band behind the timeless track, “What I Like About You.” These power pop icons take the stage at Montalvo's beautiful outdoor Lilian Fontaine Garden Theater for a show that will have you on your feet and dancing in the aisles!

This concert will also be the debut of our Garden Terrace for concessions and beverage sales. You'll be amazed by this beautiful new area, which provides extra space to mingle and enjoy a glass of wine.

Want to make the evening complete? Be sure to add Dining on the Terrace, our delicious pre-concert meal on the front veranda of the beautiful historic Villa.

The Art of Wine
Bottling party, tasting, & tour with Conrado Cellars
The Art of Wine

Join us this fall as we explore the Art of Wine with award-winning vintner Paul Conrado, President and CEO of Conrado Home Builders. His winemaking hobby is a way to bring people together around something they love and enjoy. His wines have won hundreds of awards.

These events are an exclusive opportunity for Montalvo friends to access Conrado Cellars: the vineyard is not open to the public, and Conrado wines are not available for public sale (your $65 registration fee includes a bottle to take home). They also explore the craft of winemaking as an artistic practice.

Saturday, August 20, 9am-12pm:
Vineyard Bottling Party
Only 20 guests will get to enjoy this uniquely intimate experience! The day will begin at Conrado Cellars with a tour of the bottling facility. Next, get down to work with your fellow guests as you each take a turn on the assembly line bottling wines from start to finish. Afterwards, lift a glass of vino and enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres with your newfound friends. You'll leave with one of the wines you’ve just bottled.

Saturday, October 15, 3-4:30pm:
Tour and Tasting
Come enjoy an autumnal afternoon of good wine and good company! Paul Conrado will lead a walking tour of the vineyard and cave, discussing his craft and creative process. Next, enjoy a guided tasting of Conrado Cellars wines paired with delicious antipasti and hors d’oeuvres. At the close of the afternoon, you’ll take home a bottle of Conrado Cellars wine.
