Montalvo Arts Center Weekly Newsletter
February 24: Margaret Laurena Kemp
Open Access: Margaret Laurena Kemp

Join us for Open Access on Friday, February 24 from 7-9pm in the Lucas Artists Program commons as performance artist Margaret Laurena Kemp discusses An Untitled Project Involving Bodies, Dirt, and Space.

Kemp presented excerpts from this ongoing work at Montalvo during our 2016 Rock the Garden festival, 5 Hour Sculpture. Combining sounds, music, and dance, it explores the politics of silence, space, forced migration, and African American myths of flight -- while also delving into issues of place, identity, and authorship. For this Open Access event, Kemp will revisit An Untitled Project and will also present a new experimental video piece that continues her investigation of these themes.

In addition, Lucas Artist Composer Fellow Eric Moe will discuss his work and share some of his latest compositions. Invite a friend to come along as you mingle with artists and fellow arts lovers while enjoying a glass of wine -- and a fascinating evening of conversation and art. Tickets are just $10. Hope to see you there!

Next Floral Design Class is March 19
Contemporary Floral Design: Line and Repetition

Take your floral arrangements to the next level with our upcoming Contemporary Floral Design class: Line & Repetition on Sunday, March 9 from 10:30am-12:30pm

This series of classes uses the principles of ikebana to refine and extend European floral traditions. Taught by instructors Mickie Anderson and Diane Graham, each course focuses on a different element of floral design.

In this class, participants will learn to extend their arrangements in space, creating volume for beautiful decorations by using line and repetition. Basic design principles are also covered for those who have never taken a floral class before.

Your $75 enrollment fee includes all flowers, a vase, and structural materials needed. Participants are asked to bring clippers, an apron, a towel, and something to take notes on. All experience levels are welcome!
