Celebrate the season with Holiday Teas

Yuletide Holiday Teas

Before your holiday shopping commences, why not kick off the season with a fun, festive tea in Montalvo's charming historic Villa? Our annual Yuletide events presented by the Montalvo Service Group run from November 20-22—and now is the time to reserve your seats at the table!

This year, we're offering up an entire weekend of holiday teas, with choices for the whole family. The weekend kicks off with a Yuletide Morning Tea on Friday, November 20, from 10am-12pm. Enjoy mimosas, pastries, and small sandwiches along with your choice of tea.

On both Saturday, November 21, and Sunday November 22, bring the kids to a Children's Tea with Santa at 10am, featuring a special kids menu, a storytime reading, and the chance to meet Santa Claus himself!

If you'd rather ditch the kids, join us in the afternoons at 2pm instead for adult libations at Champagne High Tea. Sweet treats and tasty sandwiches will be on the menu, along with tea and a glass of bubbly.

Accompanying each tea will be a small holiday shopping boutique and musical entertainment. Our theme this year is "Home is Where the Heart Is," and we hope you feel at home with us!

Please note that due conflicts with a construction project planned on site this winter, our annual Yuletide Marketplace will not be taking place. Look for the return of that event in 2016!

Botanica Poetica

Botanica Poetica

Great news for all you art lovers: we're extending the run of our awesome exhibition Botanica Poetica in the Project Space Gallery!

For this show, Montalvo's horticultural diversity serves as inspiration for a series of new works created by Lucas Artist Fellows Kija Lucas, Monica Lundy, Hector Dionicio Mendoza, and Fieldworks Collaborative (Trena Noval and Ann Wettrich). Through sculpture, painting, photography, and works on paper, viewers can reflect on the boundary between the natural and unnatural, and the intimate entanglement between human history and the landscapes that surround us.

The exhibition was originally slated to close with an Open Access event on Sunday, December 6. That event will still take place, and you'll still have an opportunity to check out the gallery and meet some of the artists (click here for more info and to purchase tickets), but it won't be the closing party. Instead, Botanica Poetica will remain up through Sunday, January 31.

Project Space Gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, 11am-3pm; (between December 20 and January 2, please call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 to confirm hours before your visit).

Discover the music
of Kayhan Kalhor
& Erdal Erzincan

Kayhan Kalhor & Erdal Erzincan

Join us on Sunday, November 22, at 7pm for and discover the beautiful, mesmerizing music of Kayhan Kalhor & Erdal Erzincan in our intimate Carriage House Theatre.

Four-time Grammy Award nominee Kalhor is a legendary performer in Iran, with devoted fans that span the globe. He is a master of the kamancheh, a traditional bowed Persian instrument that is widely used in classical Iranian music.

Erzincan is a Turkish baglama player who has collaborated with a number of other middle eastern musicians, and has performed and recorded with Kalhor for more than 10 years. The baglama is a plucked instrument similar to a western lute, with seven strings. It is one of the most popular instruments used in Turkish folk music, but also has links to Iran and the Persian musical traditions.

Together, the pair will explore improvisations at the nexus of Persian and North Indian music. It's a world music show exploring jazz performance techniques, using instruments you might not otherwise ever see—don't miss it!
