This past Tuesday, we announced our 2017-2018 Carriage House Concert Series in an exclusive members-only party in our beautiful historic Villa. This season of more than 30 fantastic concerts and comedy shows includes styles from jazz, pop, and rock to Persian, Latin, and Hawaiian -- plus a whole lot more! 

Tickets go on sale to the public starting next Monday, May 22 at 10am -- but Montalvo members already have presale privileges. Members also get exclusive ticket access to an additional performer who we can't even announce until May 31! Here's the lineup:

In addition to our Carriage House shows, we've got four new Saint Michael Trio concerts on the calendar, taking place in our beautiful historic Villa:

Open Studios at the LAP This Sunday
The Lucas Artists Residency Program

Join us for a rare opportunity to visit the studios of our Lucas Artists Residency Program! We are hosting a special Open Studios on Sunday, May 21 from 11am-5pm -- and the artists will be on hand to discuss their current work with the community. 

Artists who are scheduled to be in residence include: Montalvo Culinary Artist Andrea Blum, poet Jen Bervin, artist and professor Michele Carlson, writer Allegra Hyde, visual artist Nora Krahl, artist and photographer Kija Lucas, author Patrick Rosal, musician Walt Szymanski, visual and sound artist Stephen Vitiello, and composer Juan Filipe Waller.

The Open Studios event is FREE to the public, but your RSVP is requested below. Please note that parking is also free, but limited -- so please carpool if possible.

Summer Nights: Art Classes for Adults
Montalvo Summer Nights

There’s magic in the air on a summer night at Montalvo! Come enjoy warm weather, wine, and workshops for artistic adults at our Montalvo Summer Nights classes.

Taught by professional instructors and artists, this summer's program offers a diverse range of creative disciplines. There's sure to be something for everybody -- and all classes are great for beginners and experts alike! Wine, light hors d’oeuvres, and all materials are included in your enrollment fee. 

  • Tuesday, June 6, 6-8pm: Gelatin Prints -- Using a slab of gelatin as a printing press, make unique art prints with summer flora.
  • Tuesday, June 27, 6-8pm: Photo Transfer Collages -- Design beautiful, imaginative compositions from photographs in this class on collages. 
  • Tuesday, July 11, 6-8pm: Pressed Flower Prints -- Create lovely floral motifs with hapa-zome, the art of pounding petals and leaves onto paper to transfer their natural pigments onto the page. 
  • Tuesday, July 18, 5-8pm: ARTpocalypse Now! -- Are you creative enough to survive an apocalypse? Rediscover Montalvo as you navigate the grounds without GPS, build shelters, and craft basic tools in this survival workshop. 
  • Tuesday, July 25, 6-8pm: Painted Greens with a Splash of Whites -- The plate becomes your canvas, the knife your brush, and bright fruits and veggies your paints in this culinary arts class, plus plating techniques and wine pairing tips. 
  • Tuesday, August 1, 6-8pm: Succulent Jewelry -- Go natural! Fashion playful, “living” jewelry pieces embellished with greenery. 
  • Tuesday, August 8, 6-8pm: Monoprinting with Paper-Cutouts -- Using paint and cutout paper shapes, create a spontaneous, one-of-a-kind print. 
  • Tuesday, August 15, 6-8pm: Tasting History of Santa Cruz Mountains Wine -- Delve into the past of the mountains surrounding Montalvo, a rich wine history (before 1860!) that’s produced some of the best wines in the world, right in our backyard. 
  • Tuesday, August 29, 6-8pm: Scrape and Reveal Technique -- Explore the surrealist art of grattage using tools to scrape away pigment to reveal colorful images beneath. 
  • Tuesday, September 5, 6-8pm: Mindful Ikebana: The Art of Japanese Flower Arranging -- Bring your consciousness into the moment with this mindful, centuries-old technique!
