Just Announced: Five For Fighting January 23
Five For Fighting

GREAT NEWS! We've added a new concert to our fabulous 2017-2018 Carriage House Concert Series: join us for An Evening with Five For Fighting with String Quartet on Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30pm.

Chart-topping singer/songwriter John Ondrasik, who goes by Five For Fighting, burst on the scene some 15 years ago with his Grammy-nominated hit "Superman (It's Not Easy)," and has been a mainstay on radio stations ever since. At Montalvo, he will perform backed by a string quartet, reinterpreting his popular past songs and exploring ambitious new material -- all filtered through his uniquely moving creative lens.

Tickets to this show are currently on sale to Montalvo members only and can be purchased through the ticket link below or by calling the Box Office at 408-961-5858. If you're a member and haven't received your exclusive presale password -- or if you're not a member and want to get access to the best seats in the house -- call our Membership Operations Manager Taylor Welty today at 408-961-5809! Tickets go on sale to the general public tomorrow (Friday, September 22) at 10am.

Mother Lear Debuts in October
Mother Lear

This fall at Montalvo, experience Mother Lear -- a new two-woman performance presented by We Players outdoors on our scenic Great Lawn.

Mother Lear tells the story of a formerly brilliant Shakespeare scholar descending into dementia. As her memories and her words desert her, she finds her one reliable method for communication is through the remembered text of King Lear. Her daughter Cordelia realizes that she must try to reach her mother through the only language she recognizes before it is too late. Together, the two navigate the struggles of family, aging, and mortality through the humor and poetry of Shakespeare’s writing -- and finally achieve authentic communication.

This one-hour distillation of King Lear created by We Players founder Ava Roy and actress Courtney Walsh is designed to invite conversations about the meaning and experience of death. Audiences will rediscover the magic of the bard’s gift for expression, as two relatable modern characters find that Shakespeare’s words surpass their own in navigating difficult subjects like regret and mortality.

As "Act 2" of each performance, join us in the historic Villa for in-depth conversations with the performers and special guests about the production's themes.

Four evening performances of Mother Lear will be offered: from Thursday, October 12 - Sunday, October 15, each at 5:30pm. Click the button below to purchase your tickets today, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.

Create Amazing Prints with Intaglio Etching
Printmaking: Intaglio Etching

Want to get creative with your art and learn a new technique for making beautiful prints? Join us on Tuesday, October 24 from 6-8pm for Intaglio Etching, a printmaking class designed for artists of all skill levels.

In intaglio, an image is etched directly into the printing surface before being transferred onto paper. By experimenting with this printing method, students will see how line quality can be used to create a range of textures and gradients, as well as compositional hierarchy. Click on the video link above to see what the process looks like and imagine what you can create!

No experience is necessary for this class, and your $45 registration fee includes all supplies -- so just show up, have fun, and come away with some of your own original works of art! Click the button below to register or call our Box Office at 408-961-5858, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.
