Charles Brothers to
make rare appearance
next week

Glen and Les Charles

Comedy writers and brothers, Glen and Les Charles have penned scripts for Cheers, Taxi, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, Phyllis, and M*A*S*H and created the indelible character Frasier Crane.

The two rarely make public appearances together, but in a Bay Area exclusive, they'll be coming to Montalvo as part of our prestigious Writers Series next Wednesday, April 6, at 7pm

Along with moderator Katherine Maxfield (an award-winning author in her own right), the Charles brothers will screen hilarious TV clips and share behind-the-scenes show business stories.

Raised in Las Vegas, the brothers ditched their boring day jobs for a move to Los Angeles, where they launched two of the most preeminent careers in TV sitcom writing. They garnered dozens of Emmy awards and entertained huge audiences in prime time for decades. If you remember watching any of their shows, you won't want to miss these two brilliant and funny personalities.

After the conversation, audience members will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with all three writers at a reception featuring light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar in the historic Villa.

Mask Salon & Open Studio

On Saturday, April 16, from 2-4pm, join Lucas Artist Fellows We Players for a fun and creative Mask Salon and Open Studio

Masks have been used in the theatre for generations, first to convey emotion to massive amphitheaters before evolving into something more subtle—a disguise, entertainment, or a cloak of anonymity. Explore the rich artistic tradition of mask-making through a series of hands-on activities and come away with a mask of your own.

In October, We Players will perform Romeo & Juliet on Montalvo's grounds, in which audience members will follow the action, be guests at the Capulet masquerade ball (bring the mask you create at this event!) and more. Stay tuned for more details about these performances.

Tickets to the salon are just $10, or free for Montalvo members. Click below to purchase yours today (members, RSVP through Chris Wilcox at 408-961-5849).

Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers!
Lavay Smith

“First-rate vocals...magnificent arrangements...the best combo in town” —The San Francisco Examiner

Lavay Smith is internationally recognized as the Queen Of Classic Jazz & Blues, a sultry chanteuse in the style of the '40s and '50s with a modern, feminist twist. Don't miss her fabulous performance in our intimate Carriage House Theatre on Friday, April 8, at 8pm.

Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers are one of the most swingin’ big bands on either coast, and their take on jazz, standards, and bebop will move your spirit and your feet. Be sure to add Martini Madness and make your evening complete with a cocktail before the show (Martini Madness reservations close Tuesday).
