Journeys of Understanding: Sandow Birk, Nov 7
Sandow Birk, "Sura 37B"

Join us for an enlightening conversation with former Lucas Artist Fellow Sandow Birk on Tuesday, November 22, at 7pm in the Residency Commons.

Birk is a visual artist whose work delves deeply into literary and religious manuscripts, examining them through a modern lens. His most recent project was nine-years in the making: a hand-transcription of the entire Qur'an according to historic Islamic traditions, illuminated with relevant scenes from contemporary American life. Published as The American Qur’an in 2015, portions of the book were completed while Birk was in residence with us. Click here to read more about the project on our Open Access blog.

In this conversation, entitled “Journeys of Understanding,” Birk and moderator Lori Wood will unpack his exploration of humanity’s diverse world-views through our seminal texts.

Tickets are just $10 (free for Montalvo members by RSVPing through Chris Wilcox). Click the button below to buy now, or call our Box Office at 408-961-5858 Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.
