On Friday, March 30, at 6pm, join us in the Lucas Artists Residency Commons for Final Fridays with Robin Lasser, followed by a special dinner and a movie!

Lasser, an artist and professor at San Jose State University, will be installing an "Edible Dress Tent" on Montalvo's grounds this spring. For Final Fridays, she will discuss her piece, which will incorporate plants and herbs which can be harvested for food.

After Lasser's presentation, guests are invited to remain in the Commons for a casual dinner and movie! The film, a documentary by artists-in-residence Wapke Feenstra and Antje Schiffers, follows their project Vorratskammer, a 15-month-long endeavor to feed 5,000 people in five days.

Meanwhile, Culinary Fellow Niki Ford will prepare Muffuletta-inspired sandwiches, salad, and cookies for a casual meal to enjoy during the film. Dinner is $15, but those who do not want dinner can still relax, watch the film, and enjoy the evening with a glass of beer or wine!

Final Fridays is a FREE event. RSVPs for dinner are required and can be made through Julie Thorne: Please include any dietary restrictions in your email. Cash payment for dinner ($15) will be taken on-site, (limited to 30 patrons).

Niki Ford will prepare Muffuletta-style sandwiches for a movie after the Final Fridays presentation.

California Guitar Trio &

Montreal Guitar Trio

take the stage April 22

California Guitar Trio
California Guitar Trio

Guitar aficionados rejoice! Two of the world's most innovative guitar trios, the Montreal Guitar Trio and the California Guitar Trio, will appear in a double bill concert on Sunday, April 22, at 7:30pm

The two trios, who have been touring together for the past few years, have been touted as a "six-by-6-string 'phenomensemble'." For their performance at Montalvo, each group will first perform separately, before taking the stage to perform a set together as a six-man collective.

Masters of both the accoustic and electric guitar, the California Guitar Trio's genre-bending style is inspired by their progressive rock background, as well as blues, jazz, and various schools of rock and surf music. The Montreal Guitar Trio's signature sound blends jazz with a world music flavor - including the melodies of India, the rhythms of South America and Spain, and the spirited lilt of Québécois folk.

Don't miss your chance to see these two exciting trios performing together on one stage in the intimate 300-seat Carriage House Theatre! Purchase your tickets online today, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

Haleh Abghari
Haleh Abghari

On Friday, April 27, at 8pm, Laurie San Martin and Haleh Abghari are joined by percussionist Chris Froh to present Conference of the Birds Unfeathered. Inspired by Farid al-Din Attar's 12th century poem, this musical tale draws on Korean pansori, Persian music, as well as bird songs and Western classical music. Aspects of the original story are woven together with other stories in a satirical and dramatic performance.

On Friday, May 25, at 8:30pm, the Beth Custer Ensemble presents My Grandmother in the outdoor Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre. It's a live performance of Custer's original score set to an eccentric 1929 silent film, My Grandmother, by Soviet Georgian director Kote Mikaberidze. The score is a quick-paced pastiche of jazz, blues, classical, and world music.

And on Friday, June 1, at 8pm, Dancing Sun Foundation and Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company of Taiwan present Fall in Love with Formosa, an evening of modern and traditional Chinese dance featuring works inspired by histori
cal events and literary texts.

Tickets to these exciting performances are: $20 for General; $15 for Members; and $8 for students. Purchase your tickets online today, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
