Don't Miss Open Access Tomorrow
Open Access: Margaret Laurena Kemp

Join us for Open Access on Friday, February 24 from 7-9pm in the Lucas Artists Program commons as performance artist Margaret Laurena Kemp
presents a new work, part of An Untitled Project Involving Bodies, Dirt, and Space -- an ongoing investigation exploring the racialized body as text in the American landscape.

This new performance incorporates imagery from the work she presented at Montalvo during our 2016 Rock the Garden festival, 5 Hour Sculpture. Combining sounds, music, and dance, it explores the politics of silence, space, forced migration, and African American myths of flight -- while also delving into issues of place, identity, and authorship.

In addition to Kemp, Lucas Artist Fellows Eric Moe, Yasuhiro Usui, and Hiroaki Morita will discuss their latest works

So, don't miss out! Invite a friend to come along as you mingle with artists and fellow arts lovers while enjoying a glass of wine -- plus a fascinating evening of conversation and performance. Tickets are just $10 (free for students with valid ID). We'll see you there!

Arts In Your Classroom Keynote Announced
Arts In Your Classroom 2017

If you're a teacher or have an interest in arts education, you won't want to miss our annual Arts In Your Classroom conference on Saturday, March 4, from 9am-4pm. Incorporating this year's theme of Art as Activism: Deconstructing Education to Build a Better Future, the day will include hands-on workshops, inspirational presentations, and opportunities to network with colleagues in your field.

We are also excited to announce the keynote speaker for the conference -- award-winning community organizer, media producer, and educator Martha Diaz. Her address, entitled "Using the Arts to Develop Purpose and Meaningful Work," will focus on helping students who are struggling with trauma find connections and community through the arts.

For two decades, Diaz has traversed between the entertainment industry, non-profit sector, and academia. She has worked on movie productions, published research papers on hip-hop, and been awarded various fellowships and residencies. She is a member of the Cornell Hip-Hop Collection advisory board; founder of the Hip-Hop Education Center; and a project manager and archivist for Beyoncé's company Parkwood Entertainment.

After the keynote, participants will break into different workshops for morning and afternoon sessions, then conclude the day together with networking, wine, and entertainment. We hope you can join us!

Get Invited to a Donor Appreciation Party
Donors enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres at a party in January

No doubt about it, Montalvo loves its members! And four times a year, we make this love known with exclusive donor appreciation events that give our generous contributors a chance to meet and mingle over food and wine.

Last month, we held a party in the historic Villa, which featured Foley Johnson and J. Lohr wines, catering by our own Chris Wilcox, raffle prizes, and a whole lot of fun. Click here to see a photo album from the evening. Our next donor party is coming up on Monday, February 27 -- and anybody who has given at the $2,500 and above is invited. For information on how you can join the festivities, contact our Development Director Emma Moon at: emoon@montalvoarts.org.

Remember, this is just one of the great benefits of becoming a Montalvo member. To see a complete list of donor levels and membership benefits, click the button below.
