Larger Than Life: Storm Large at Montalvo
Storm Large

On Tuesday, March 20 at 7:30pm, don't miss an unforgettable performance by Storm Large in our intimate Carriage House Theatre.

A stunning vocalist, Storm has been hailed as a “punk goddess” by Playboy Magazine and a "fierce and compelling rock siren" by the UK's STV. She first shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova, and made her debut with the band Pink Martini in 2011, singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. For her Montalvo show, Large will perform fan favorites and selections from her latest release Le Bonheur, a collection of tortured and titillating love songs.

Storm Large: "I've Got You Under My Skin"

Time to Get Dancing, March 7
Afro-Caribbean Dance

Our series of fun and accessible dance classes continues in the historic Villa on Wednesday, March 7 at 6pm with Afro-Caribbean Dance.

Explore upbeat dance styles and other traditional forms that have evolved from the merging of African and South American cultures across the Caribbean. Folklore from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as live drumming, will inspire you to move your feet!

Instructor Shereen Manalani fell in love with Trinidad's folklore after training in a wide variety of dance forms. Her passion for this style lead to 25 years of study under internationally known dance master Wilfred Mark. She has taught at colleges, universities, and cultural centers, brought fitness and educational arts programs to dozens of schools, and has presented arts education workshops to both teachers and artists.

Don't miss your chance to get your dance on! And remember that dance is more fun with friends -- so be sure to invite them through our Facebook event page.

Open Air Electronica
Open Access: Open Air Electronica

Join us on Thursday, March 22 at 7pm for a very special, musical Open Access event: Open Air Electronica with Nicole Lizée, Ben Reimer, and The Living Earth Show.

Described as a “brilliant musical scientist,” Lizée is a JUNO-nominated composer who creates music from an eclectic mix of influences including the earliest MTV videos, turntablism, rave culture, Hitchcock, Kubrick, psychedelia, and 1960s modernism. She is fascinated by the glitches made by outmoded and well-worn technology and integrates them into live performances.
Her new piece, which will take place outdoors on Montalvo’s grounds, will be a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Ben Reimer and the musical duo The Living Earth Show.

In addition to presenting Open Air Electronica, Lizée will also discuss her work on a multimedia opera based on Karel Capek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots, and how this 1920 science fiction play relates to our current context of rapidly advancing technologies and recent developments in AI.

This is sure to be a fascinating evening of music, experimentation, and conversation; tickets are just $10 for the public, $5 for students, and FREE for Montalvo donors!
