Classical music galore in 2014!

Pianist Jon Nakamatsu & clarinetist Jon Manasse
make magic March 27

Jon Nakamatsu & Jon Manasse

Montalvo's classical music programming in 2014 is something to get excited about: In addition to the Saint Michael Trio (see article to the right) and a unique evening of poetry and music with Ensemble San Francisco (see article below), world-class musicians Jon Nakamatsu and Jon Manasse will perform as a duo in the intimate Carriage House Theatre on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30pm.

Nakamatsu is a San Jose native who won the Gold Medal at the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, among many other distinctions. Manasse served as the principal clarinetist of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, has performed internationally, and was the youngest winner of the International Clarinet Society Competition. Together, Nakamatsu and Manasse serve as Artistic Directors of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival.

The duo made a recent appearance with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and the result was a critical success through and through. The San Jose Mercury News called it "seamlessly composed with quicksilver clarinet-piano passages," and described the night's performance as "series of musical highs and of symmetry."

And then there are pears...

Join us for a night of music and poetry entitled "And then there are pears..." in the historic Villa on Tuesday, January 21, from 6:30-9pm and explore with us the many ways that food inspires the creative arts.

The evening will include a performance by newly formed Ensemble San Francisco, poetry readings by Jeffrey Levine (poet and founder of Tupelo Press), and Sally Ashton (Santa Clara County Poet Laureate and Lucas Artists Literary Fellow). The phrase "And then there are pears..." is taken from a line in one of Levine's poems.

Books and CDs will be available for sale at the event, and the evening begins with a small reception where you can mingle with the poets, the ensemble, and fellow attendees while enjoying a glass of wine and the beauty of the Villa.

Tickets are just $15 ($7 for students) and can be purchased by clicking below or calling the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
