Spring Art Classes with Dana Harel
Spring Art Classes

Join us in March for a weekly series of Spring Art Classes led by internationally-renowned visual artist and former Lucas Artist Fellow Dana Harel. Each course explores a different technique through examples from a well-known artist.

Gelatin Prints: Andy Warhol: Monday, March 13, 6-8pm
Gelatin printing is a form of monoprinting in which a gelatin slab is used as a “plate” to create images -- no press is required. Using Andy Warhol’s flower series for inspiration, you’ll interpret his silkscreen process with gelatin printing to achieve a similar result: challenge yourself to be as flexible as the material and create soft and dreamy one-of-a-kind prints.

Grattage Technique: Paul Klee: Monday, March 20, 6-8pm
A number of techniques were devised by the Surrealists to evoke psychic responses. Grattage involves scraping forms and textures into the wet surface of the paint, allowing chance rather than the conscious mind to play an important role in creativity. In this class, you’ll explore how artist Paul Klee made use of grattage to create enduring masterpieces.

Photo Transfer: Max Ernst: Monday, March 27, 6-8pm
Photomontage, once considered a radical pictorial technique, creates startlingly illogical compositions made from cutout photographs. Inspired by the work of Max Ernst, you’ll experiment with various photo transfer methods and choose from a rich variety of images to piece together your own collage.

Classes are just $45 each and include all required art supplies. No experience is necessary -- sign up today! Click the button below to see the complete schedule and register online, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858, ext. 5 (M-F, 10am-4pm).
