Get ready: New Carriage House
Concert Season will be
announced May 15!
Carriage House Theatre

Our most recent Carriage House Concert season just concluded with sold-out performances by Hugh Masekela and the Cowboy Junkies. It was a fantastic year filled with a diverse range of musicians and comedians; but if you missed out, don't worry: there's plenty more music and performances coming your way!

Next Wednesday, May 15, prepare for a whole new lineup of concerts in the Carriage House Theatre. This schedule of more than 20 shows will begin in November and continue through May 2014.

If you'd like to purchase tickets to these performances before the general public, now is the time to become a Member! Membership also has other privileges, such as ticket discounts, exclusive parties, and more. Call today at 408-961-5849 or click here to join now.

In addition to our Carriage House shows, don't forget about our fabulous Summer Concerts in the beautiful outdoor Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre! These performances include Marianne Faithfull (June 28), Randy Newman (July 18), Dave Koz (July 19), Mary Chapin Carpenter & Marc Cohn (July 21), Lewis Black (August 15 & 16), Chris Botti (August 23), and Brian Regan (August 29) - with more exciting concerts set to be announced soon (stay tuned!).

When you purchase tickets for the summer, be sure to include Dining on the Terrace, our delicious pre-concert dinner experience catered by the pros at Café Primavera. No need to make dinner plans at a restaurant before the show when you can sit on the veranda of the historic Villa and enjoy dinner in style. Click here to see a sample menu.

See you soon!

Summer Camp Spotlight:
Young Writers
in the Garden

Young Writers in the Garden

If your children are budding poets or writers who also enjoy the outdoors, give them a chance to blossom at one of our unique Summer Arts Camps: Seeds of Curiosity - Young Writers in the Garden!

Writing and gardening both invite us to pay close attention to the world around us. This creative writing camp will explore Montalvo's grounds and let the students' discoveries help to shape their writing! Students will create journals, compose stories and poems, and read their work at the end of the week.

Taught by author and Lucas Artists Residency fellow Genine Lentine, this camp is for ages 9 & up and will be offered from July 15-19. Click here to register today; click here to see our full list of 2013 Summer Arts Camps.

Join us throughout the summer for our 2013 Art on the Grounds exhibition, Come Healing. On view are six works by national and international artists exploring the relationships between healing, wholeness, and place:

Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan consider the connections between wellbeing and home with Dwellings: Project Another Country. Small houses produced from recycled boxes are transformed into a large-scale installation.

is a 15-piece installation of 3-foot high steel sculptures by Chuck Ginnever. It challenges viewers to question their perspective, suggesting that our life experiences are always shaped by how we choose to view them.

With Mapping Biointimacy, artist collective Owen Driggs invites visitors to explore the historical, medicinal, and cultural significance of plant, tree, and animal species at Montalvo through mobile app technologies, signage, workshops, and tours.

Susan O’Malley's
A Healing Walk guides visitors through Montalvo’s forest trails with inspirational signage encouraging us to be attentive to the present moment and appreciate the healing effects of the countryside.

For The Bells of MindfulnessTiffany Singh draws on Buddhist tradition, creating a spectacular work with 1000 bells suspended on brightly colored ribbons from a tree on Montalvo’s grounds. Later, she will distribute the bells to participants so that they might transport them to places they consider sacred.

Christine Wong Yap
demonstrates the healing force of community with her Irrational Exuberance Flags, a spirited declaration of unabashed enthusiasm. An invited member of the public selects one of five brightly colored flags and periodically hoists it up a flagpole in front of the Lucas Artists Residency.

Many of these works are on view now, while others will be installed in the coming weeks. Art on the Grounds is FREE and open to the public during Montalvo's regular park hours (Mon-Thu 8am-5pm, Fri-Sun 9am-5pm). We will also be offering docent-led tours of these works on Thursdays Saturdays, and Sundays, starting in June. RSVPs are required in advance at 408-961-5858.
