Get ready! OneBeat festival is October 25

Are you getting excited about OneBeatThe cultural exchange initiative that brings together international musicians to collaboratively write, produce, and perform original music is returning to Montalvo for the second year! The program culminates with a spectacular free public festival on the grounds on Sunday, October 25, from 2-6pm.

This year's all new group of musicians includes an Indian percussionist; a Malaysian theremin player; a Colombian accordianist; vocalists from Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and the United States; and more! Learn more about this year's fellows here.

Showcasing the brand new work the musicians have created, our fun, family-friendly festival will engage the community and celebrate intercultural understanding. You will see small group performances staged throughout Montalvo’s scenic grounds, and you'll mingle among the musicians as they perform. The day ends with a fabulous ensemble performance in the Garden Theatre.

Want a taste of what you'll see? Click here for videos from last year's OneBeat festival—and keep in mind, with a whole new group of 25 musicians in 2015, anything can happen!

In addition to the music, enjoy music-making activities and gourmet food trucks. Be sure to pack your sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes.

Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead

Join us on Friday, November 6, from 6-9pm for a special Open Access event with Lucas Artist Fellow Hector Dionicio Mendoza as we celebrate the Mexican holiday el día de los muertos (the Day of the Dead).

Mendoza will discuss the role this holiday plays in his life and his artistic works, and he will lead an altar-making art activity—a traditional practice relating to the day.

The altars celebrate departed family, friends, community leaders, or other individuals and groups a person finds significant in their life.

Guests will learn how to create paper picado; other materials like marigolds and pan dulce will be supplied. B
ring a photograph or memento of someone you would like to celebrate; we will keep the altars up on view at Montalvo until November 13.

This event is presented in association with the San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild’s 18th Annual Día de los Muertos 2015.
