Everyone has stories to tell. Your stories and the stories of the people around you are unique, valuable treasures for your family and your community. Join historian Margo McBane and learn how you and your family members can preserve unwritten family history using oral history techniques. Likewise, discover and preserve unwritten history large and small in your community.

After the workshop, join special guest Jane Goldbach, historian and former longtime member of Montalvo’s Board of Trustees, for a special tour of the Historic Villa. Jane will share some stories about Montalvo and the life of its founder James Duval Phelan.

Margo McBane is a faculty member in the department of public and oral history at San Jose State University. She holds a Ph.D in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has worked in museums, public radio documentary production, non-profit history development, and municipal history projects. Margo has worked on numerous public history projects for such organizations as the City of Pico Rivera; University of California, Berkeley; and Autry Museum of Western Heritage. Her public history specialty is oral history.
