Join artists Taraneh Hemami and Hugh Livingston as they introduce you to their new sonic artworks commissioned for Montalvo’s latest outdoor exhibition, Now Hear This!

In a family-friendly drop-in workshop, Livingston will invite visitors to explore the principles of bird communication and use deep listening techniques to identify found sounds they can use to invent their own bird song. These new bird songs will be added to Livingston's sonic menagerie, Birds of Invention: A Garden Opera, in Montalvo’s Italianate Garden. In addition, Hemami will invite visitors as well as some special guests to activate her sound sculpture One Voice (Yek Seda) -- also located in the Italianate Garden. Three Lucas Artist Fellows -- poet Monica de la Torre, composer Hans Tammen, and musician Miya Masaoka -- will also participate.
