Join us for an evening of exploration and a toast to Lucas Artists Residency Program Fellows! We will celebrate 10 years with Sally and Don Lucas Artists Residency Program and 75 years since Montalvo opened its original residency. Visit the painting studios of Swiss artist Nicole Schmoelzer and New York-based Philip Portoghese as they share work created during their 3 month residency, learn about their individual artistic processes and they have used their time in residence. Take a tour with our curator Donna Conwell to our Project Space Gallery: she will lead conversations about the works that make up our exhibition Possibilities of Paper. Check out the latest development of Chris Loomis’ commissioned Seating Element in the Italianate Garden, which is being carved out of eucalyptus from Montalvo’s property. Bring your walking shoes!
Resident Artists include: Composer Haleh Abghari, Painter Nicole Schmoelzer, Painter Philip Portoghese, Visual Artist Dionicio Mendoza, Visual Artist Chris Loomis, Poet Heather Smith, Choreographer Nehara Kalev, and Culinary Artist Jessica Theroux – we will toast to their work with an evening of art and engagement!
This event includes a cash bar and food is available for purchase. It is programmed in association with the Anniversary Celebration of Montalvo’s Residency program and is organized by the Lucas Artists Program at Montalvo Arts Center.
