Lift a glass of premium ale with us while Bruce Henderson and Katherine Maxfield discuss Henderson's brand new Rescue at Los Baños: the first book to tell the incredible true story of one of the greatest military rescues of all time. Hors d'oeuvres will be served (wine, too, if beer isn't your thing). Books will be available for purchase.

As the Pacific War was drawing to a close in 1945, the Japanese bitterly tightened their grip on their prisoners of war. The 2,146 prisoners of the Los Baños prison camp in the Philippines received ruthless treatment: starvations, beatings, and degradations. Fearing the worst, General Douglas MacArthur authorized the 11th Airborne Division to embark on a dangerous rescue mission deep inside enemy-held territory—and a heart-pounding race against the clock began.

Weaving together insights from personal interviews, diaries, memoirs, and archival research, Rescue at Los Baños tells the gripping story of a group of POWs who overcame hardship with courage and resilience, and the young American and Filipino fighting men who risked their lives to save them.

A U.S. Navy 7th Fleet weatherman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger during Vietnam, Henderson is the author/coauthor of over twenty nonfiction books, including The New York Times #1 bestseller And the Sea Will Tell. A lifelong journalist and writer, his work has appeared in Playboy, Esquire, Reader’s Digest, and dozens of other periodicals.
