If you built a habitat fit for life in the harsh Mars environment, what would it look like? What materials would you use? These are questions currently being asked of NASA engineers and designers as they explore the possibilities of off-world living. These questions are also a wonderful way to introduce students of all ages to the concepts of science, engineering, and art. In this engaging workshop, participants will build a scale model of a habitat suitable for life on Mars using a blend of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) concepts.

This exercise can be adapted for elementary to high school classrooms. Lesson plans and online resources will be provided as part of the workshop. NGSS and Common Core Standards connections will be addressed.
